Luca Quattrocchi nasce a Roma, nel 1959.
Ricercatore e docente presso l’Università di Siena, si è laureato in Architettura, presso
l’Università “La Sapienza” di Roma con una tesi in Storia dell’Architettura, e
specializzato in Storia dell’Arte, presso l’Università di Siena. Ha svolto una lunga attività
di ricerca presso l’Accademia di Belle Arti di Praga e presso l’ITAAUT (Institut
Technologique d’Art, d’Architecture et d’Urbanisme) dell’Università di Tunisi; ha svolto
attività didattica e di ricerca presso l’Università di Roma “La Sapienza” e presso il
Politecnico di Bari.
Suoi principali campi di interesse e di ricerca sono l’architettura contemporanea, le
relazioni tra le arti figurative e le altre discipline artistiche (letteratura, poesia, musica)
tra la fine dell’Ottocento e la seconda guerra mondiale, l’architettura del ventennio
fascista, la videoarte, la museografia.
Ha partecipato a numerosi convegni scientifici e conferenze in Italia e all’estero
(Francia, Svezia, Tunisia, Germania, Lituania, Colombia), ed organizzato diverse mostre
di arte, architettura e videoarte.
Dal 1995 al 2009 ha tenuto corsi presso la Scuola di Specializzazione in Storia dell’Arte
dell’Università di Siena. Dal 1997 è ricercatore di ruolo presso l’Università di Siena,
dove dal 2001 è professore associato di Storia dell’Arte Contemporanea, abilitato nel
2016 alla prima fascia. Tiene attualmente i corsi di Storia dell’arte contemporanea,
Museografia contemporanea e Storia dell’architettura contemporanea. Dal 2005 al 2018
è stato Presidente del corso di Laurea magistrale in Storia dell’arte. Attualmente è
Delegato alla didattica del Dipartimento di Scienze storiche e del patrimonio culturale.
Ha ricoperto il ruolo di esperto nel Progetto finalizzato Beni Culturali CNR 1998 dal
titolo “Un museo di architettura” (responsabile prof. P. Portoghesi). È stato
coordinatore del PAR-Progetto di Ateneo di ricerca 2002 dell’Università di Siena dal
titolo “Scritti di architetti e artisti nelle riviste italiane dal Razionalismo al Neoliberty,
1928-1960″. È stato componente delle unità di ricerca del Progetto PRIN 2000 dal titolo
“Archivio delle fonti per la storia dell’arte del XX secolo”, del Progetto PRIN 2003 dal
titolo “Documenti per la storia dell’arte del XX secolo in Italia: ricerca e analisi”, del
Progetto PRIN 2005 dal titolo “Tracce di presenze europee nell’arte italiana fra secondo
Ottocento e primo Novecento (opere e testi)” (responsabile prof. E. Crispolti).
È stato direttore, in collaborazione con E. Crispolti, della collana editoriale “Materiali di
ricerca – Biblioteca d’arte contemporanea”, Silvana Editoriale, Milano (2002-2013). Nel
2001 ha vinto il Premio Internazionale Letteratura e Arte “Sergio Polillo”
dell’Accademia Carrara di Bergamo (III edizione) per il volume M.K. Čiurlionis: preludio
all’astrattismo, pubblicato nel 2000. Tra le sue principali pubblicazioni: monografie su
Michelazzi, Gaudì, Konupek, Čiurlionis, la Secessione a Praga, l’Art Nouveau a Tunisi,
l’architettura coloniale in Tunisia. Tra gli autori e le tematiche di cui si è occupato vi
sono Tiffany, Gallé, Klimt, Khnopff, Sant’Elia, Piranesi, Bazzani, Del Debbio, Mazzoni,
Ponti, Fontana, Sartorio, Lavirotte, Pica, Ragghianti, l’architettura delle “città di
fondazione” fasciste, l’arte fascista e la critica, l’arte e il PCI negli anni Cinquanta,
l’architettura e l’immagine delle città toscane nel Novecento, i sacrari militari d’epoca
fascista. Ha inoltre curato l’edizione italiana degli scritti sull’arte di Joris-Karl
Huysmans, e tradotto e curato gli scritti di Auguste Rodin e di Emile Gallé.

Luca Quattrocchi was born in Rome in 1959.
Researcher and lecturer at the University of Siena, he graduated in Architecture, at
the University “La Sapienza” of Rome with a thesis in History of Architecture, and
specialized in Art History, at the University of Siena. He has carried out a long activity
of research at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague and at the ITAAUT (Institut
Technologique d’Art, d’Architecture et d’Urbanisme) of the University of Tunis; he has carried out
didactic and research activities at the University of Rome “La Sapienza” and at the
Polytechnic University of Bari.
His main fields of interest and research are contemporary architecture, the
relations between the figurative arts and other artistic disciplines (literature, poetry, music)
between the end of the nineteenth century and the Second World War, the architecture of the twenty-year period
fascist, video art, museography.
He has participated in numerous scientific conferences and lectures in Italy and abroad.
(France, Sweden, Tunisia, Germany, Lithuania, Colombia), and organized several exhibitions
of art, architecture and video art.
From 1995 to 2009 he held courses at the School of Specialization in Art History.

title “A museum of architecture” (responsible prof. P. Portoghesi). It was
Coordinator of the PAR-Project of the University of Siena’s 2002 Research University of Siena since the
title “Writings of architects and artists in Italian magazines from Rationalism to Neoliberty,
1928-1960″. He was a member of the research units of the PRIN 2000 Project entitled
“Archive of the sources for the history of art of the 20th century”, of the PRIN 2003 Project from
title “Documents for the history of art of the twentieth century in Italy: research and analysis”, of the
Project PRIN 2005 titled “Traces of European presences in Italian art between second
Nineteenth and early twentieth century (works and texts)”. (responsible prof. E. Crispolti).
