La realtà aumentata popola il contesto quotidiano con oggetti digitali e interattivi, consentendo di operare trasformazioni concrete sull’ambiente per mezzo di un’immagine intelligente e responsiva. Da mero oggetto di contemplazione, l’immagine si fa dunque corpo, sintetico ma sensibile, capace di coinvolgere, talvolta di incantare e spaventare, l’interlocutore. È su questo tipo di entità, fantasmatiche eppure reali, che si concentra il saggio di Sofia Pirandello, analizzando le possibilità che questa tecnologia dischiude per la pratica artistica.
Oltre la facile constatazione che ogni invenzione comporta mirabolanti conquiste e grandi rinunce, è tuttavia impossibile ignorare le criticità che la realtà aumentata porta con sé, a partire dall’acquisizione di un’enorme quantità di dati sugli utenti, sulle loro preferenze e sui loro movimenti, che apre tutta una serie di questioni in termini di giustizia sociale, privacy e sicurezza dovute all’utilizzo di questa tecnologia, anche in ambito artistico. Giacinto Di Pietrantonio
Giacinto Di Pietrantonio Direzione della GAMeC (“ Galleria d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea di Bergamo”). Docente di Storia dell’Arte presso l’Accademia di Brera, ha ricoperto il ruolo di Redattore Capo prima e Vicedirettore poi per Flash Art Italia dal 1986 al 1992. Dal 1994 al 1996 è stato consulente per le arti visive della Regione Abruzzo. E’ stato curatore del Corso Superiore di Arti Visive presso la Fondazione Antonio Ratti di Como dal 1995 al 2004.

Augmented reality populates the everyday context with digital and interactive objects, enabling concrete transformations on the environment by means of intelligent and responsive imagery. From a mere object of contemplation, the image thus becomes a body, synthetic but responsive, capable of engaging, sometimes enchanting and frightening, the interlocutor. It is on this type of entity, phantasmic yet real, that Sofia Pirandello’s essay focuses, analyzing the possibilities that this technology opens up for artistic practice.
Beyond the easy observation that every invention entails wondrous achievements and great renunciations, it is nevertheless impossible to ignore the critical issues that augmented reality brings with it, starting with the acquisition of a huge amount of data about users, their preferences and movements, which opens up a whole series of questions in terms of social justice, privacy and security due to the use of this technology, even in the artistic sphere. Giacinto Di Pietrantonio
Giacinto Di Pietrantonio Direction of GAMeC (“Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art of Bergamo”). Professor of Art History at the Brera Academy, he held the role of Chief Editor first and then Deputy Director for Flash Art Italia since 1986 to 1992. From 1994 to 1996, he was a consultant for visual arts for the Abruzzo Region. He was the curator of the Advanced Course in Visual Arts at the Antonio Ratti Foundation in Como from 1995 to 2004.
Sofia Pirandello
She is a research fellow at the Department of Philosophy “Piero Martinetti” of the State University of Milan, where she works on augmented reality as an aesthetic and political device, from a perspective that integrates contemporary theories of imagination, philosophy of technology, media theory and contemporary art. She is co-founder and member of the contemporary art magazine TBD Ultramagazine and author of the novels Candido suicida (2018) and Bestie (2022). Photo Rosa Cinelli
